Melissa Teller, the founder of Collegian Career Coaching, has more than two decades of experience working with college and graduate students to help them achieve their career goals.
As a senior litigation associate at Irell & Manella in Los Angeles, she co-chaired the firm’s hiring committee, spending hundreds of hours each year interviewing law students for summer and full-time positions.
Melissa‘s enthusiasm for recruiting eventually led her to transition from the practice of law to the financial services industry, where she headed up large campus hiring efforts at Lehman Brothers and Credit Suisse. Her responsibilities as a campus recruiting manager included overseeing the selection, evaluation and hiring of college and MBA students for summer and full-time positions, as well as planning and running successful summer internship programs.
Melissa started Collegian Career Coaching because she recognized a need among students for practical, tailored career guidance. Over the course of her career, she has learned first-hand the qualities that employers look for in a candidate. She has personally reviewed tens of thousands of student resumes and understands what distinguishes a compelling resume from an average one. In addition to resume and cover letter writing, she has also counseled numerous students on interview preparation, networking skills and job search strategies.
Melissa holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and a J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her goldendoodle Marley.
